Surrey with the Fringe on Top

Surrey with the Fringe on Top

The first Dartmouth Yarns pattern to be published on Ravelry is a hit.  It is an easy, but fashionable, knit in garter stitch.  The special treat is that you knit in the fringe and easily unravel it when all the knitting is done.  The pattern is just $3.50 CDN and you can purchase your copy here:

For all of our local folk, bring in a copy of your online receipt for the pattern showing the price paid, and we'll give you $3.50 off your next purchase (limit one discount per customer, cannot be combined with other special offers, single transaction, no cash value, & not valid toward classes, gift cards, special orders, or prior purchases).

Also, be a dear and favorite or add the pattern to your queue on Ravelry (this helps push us up in the rankings).  Then check out all the gorgeous yarns you can use for the shawl; the pattern works with any gauge, any yarn, and you choose how much to use.  One 100g skein of fingering yarn--like Fleece Artist, Cascade Heritage, or any sock yarn--works great!  We'll have more patterns in the coming months--watch for opportunities to be a test knitter.

Mother’s Day Scarf

Mother’s Day Scarf

This is the pattern we originally published two years ago before Mother's Day.  This would be a great crochet pattern for the beautiful Flyss, fingering-weight, silk/linen yarn from the colour-artists at Handmaiden Fine Yarns.  Click here to download the .pdf.  Enjoy!

Vanier V-Neck Tunic

Vanier V-Neck Tunic

I just started the Vanier V-Neck Tunic, designed by Jennifer Ozses, in Cascade Ultra Pima.  It's a free download from Ravelry & perfect for a new crocheter.  I'm using Dusty Blue with just a few stripes of Lavender I had in my stash from last year.  This would be fantastic over a tank and yoga pants. (I just discovered the incredible comfort of wearing stretchy yoga pants all day, every day. I do like a longer top with them--my only concession to public horror at seeing me in yoga pants.) I'll share a picture when there is something more to see--I mean of the Vanier top, not me in the yoga pants. (photo by the designer)

Knitted Knockers

Knitted Knockers

We distributed all but a couple of our Knitted Knocker kits on Saturday. Those are in the shop and can be yours for the asking.  We also have lots of free copies of the pattern and more Ultra Pima yarn for purchase.  One skein will make, probably, 2 pair, depending on the size you make. TIP: if you plan to make a size larger than cup size B, you will likely need to use 8" dpns; or 5 dpns, instead of 4; or a long circular to hold the number of stiches. We are a drop-off site for finished knockers.  You don't need to stuff them; we mail them all flat in a package and they stuff them before they are distributed.  No real timeline for finishing; you can knit up a pair when you need a break from another project.  If you knit socks, you will knit up a pair of knockers in no time.  If you are new to knitting on dpns or need a little help with any part of the pattern, there are tutorial videos linked on the Knitted Knockers of Canada website at www.knittedknockerscanada.com.  If you want some hands-on assistance, drop in the shop this Thursday evening between 5:30-7:00 and I'll be happy to help you get started.  We'll also provide enough Ultra-Pima for a pair of knockers and a copy of the pattern.

Ombré Quintet

Ombré Quintet

Thanks to everyone who was so patient with our wonky receipt printer yesterday.  The issue has been resolved.

Isn't this cowl lovely? Designed by Wendy S. Baker, the Ombré Quintet pattern is available, free, on Ravelry.  I love the transition between colours.  It is worked in a fingering yarn, but would be outrageous done in dk (Pure Wool dk) or worsted (Cascade 220) to make a larger piece. Beautiful, Embraceable You

Beautiful, Embraceable You

Ami has made a beautiful scarf/cowl and, graciously, shared a picture with us.  She started with shimmery, colourful Drake yarn. Just one skein made the Embraceable Cowl/Scarf (pattern available on Ravelry).  The stitch pattern texture is perfect for highlighting the variation in the yarn. Ami used 12.5mm needles (instead of 15mm size called for in the pattern).

We love to see your finished projects. E-mail us your photo or post to our Facebook page.

Margate Hood

Margate Hood

The Margate Hood is a great project to knit to help refugees and neighbors in need stay warm this winter.  It has all the key characteristics: it's easy, used big yarn for a fast finish, designed for flexible wear, and it is really warm and snuggly. Thanks to Cat Montgomery for this project suggestion. The pattern is a free download from Lion Brand Yarns and can be found on Ravelry here.

Plain Vanilla

Plain Vanilla

We have sooooo much sock yarn in the store, a sock pattern suggestion, or two, might be just the ticket.  The Plain Vanilla Socks pattern by Keri McKiernan is downloadable here.  A plain sock pattern is perfect for busy, self-striping yarn.  Have a solid or semi-solid sock yarn, try something with a bit more challenging, like Monkey Socks by Cookie A., available for purchase from Ravelry or free from Knitty.com here.
