Holiday Countdown Projects Begin Today

Holiday Countdown Project #1

A cabled, slouchy hat, shown in SMC Lova, kicks off the Holiday Project Countdown.  This hat requires between 110 and 150 meters of chunky-weight yarn--recommended gauge of 14 st/in.  The pattern is free in the shop and yarn for this project is 10% off now through next Thursday, Oct. 30.  This is a great look for men or women.  Maria knitted the sample in the store--and in the photo below--and pointed out that the cables do require some counting, but the seed stitch background helps keep the spacing easier...kind of like work on a background grid.  The sample hat was knit at a fairly tight gauge and, as a result, fits a smaller head (like mine) with only a touch of slouch. She needed only 2 50 g skeins of Lova.  Check your guage and consider going up a needle size to make a softer, more slouchy version.  This hat would also be great in Cascade 128 (my daughter is starting her hat in dark purple 128 on a 6 mm needle this weekend) or any other yarn, or combination of yarns, that can be knit at the right gauge.

Now here's the really fun part, when you finish your cabled slouch, share a photo attached to an e-mail (info@dartmouthyarns.com), on our Facebook page (here), tweet your photo to us (@DartmouthYarns) or bring it into the shop so we will snap a photo to share on Instagram and website Gallery.  Make sure to include your name, phone, and the name of the yarn used in the project.  Every project posted willbe  entered to win a $50 Dartmouth Yarns gift certificate. The projects can be made in any yarn, as long as it's purchased from Dartmouth Yarns. The more you make and share, the more chances you have to win, and the more handmade joy you can give this holiday season!

We will have a new Holiday Countdown project next week.
