Looking for yarn, fibre, knitting & crochet supplies, fibre craft accessories, and all things wooly and colourful? Dartmouth Yarns is here for you. Sam and Kate, owners of DY, invite you come visit, shop, and learn in our fun and friendly shop in the heart of Downtown Dartmouth.

Whether you craft for practicality, art, relaxation, or pleasure—nothing feels better than saying, “I made this for you.  Let’s face it, it’s always sweater weather in Nova Scotia…warm wool sweaters or light cotton sweaters, thick turtle necks or lacy vests or shells. If a huge sweater for your uncle requires too much commitment, don’t despair. We have ideas and patterns for quick and easy projects, like hats, scarves (some great ruffley, sparkley scarves), mitts, & felted coasters. We have loads of classes and workshops—in knitting and other fibre crafts—to help you get started.

We look forward to serving you soon at Dartmouth Yarns,

Perqs Policy (discontinued)

Our new loyalty program will debut shortly, but we continue to redeem Perqs stamps toward purchases in the store.  A full Perqs card is still equivalent to a $10 gift certificate, but, now, we are happy to redeem partially filled cards at a rate of $1 per stamp.

Return Policy (in-store shopping)

We are happy to accept returns of full-priced yarn, notions, or gifts, with receipt and in original condition, within 30 days of purchase. To provide the best products to our customer, all special orders, clearance and deeply discounted items (15% or more), needles and hooks, opened packages, print, downloads, and edibles are non-returnable. See DYOnline.ca for our online Returns & Shipping Policy.

Class Policy

We are happy to provide store credit for students who must cancel enrollment in a class a minimum of 48 hours before class starts. We are unable to refund or extend credit for cancellations within 48 hours of class. We do reserve the right to cancel classes due to low enrollment; enrolled students will be offered a full refund or a substitute course, with our sincere apologies.  Sessions canceled due to bad weather will be rescheduled by the instructor in consultation with students.

  • Kate

Kate is co-owner of Dartmouth Yarns. Sam describes their partnership as a perfect symbiosis: she starts things that he has to finish. She claims that only applies to home reno jobs (and starting is the hardest part). Kate is definitely a 'process' knitter; she loves yarn and knitting--the fact that you end up with something beautiful and useful is just icing on the cake. She and Sam opened Dartmouth Yarns to support the many talented fibre-crafters in the Dartmouth area and to encourage the uninitiated to join us. Knitting, crocheting, spinning, felting, hooking, and weaving are not just creative outlets for the artist in all of us--they are post-apocalyptic life skills.

  • Sam

Sam is co-owner of Dartmouth Yarns and the better half of the Kate & Sam partnership. Sam is a relatively new knitter, but he loves the way knitting helps him focus on stitches and forget, temporarily, all the other problems of the day. His favorite fibre, by far, is cashmere, and he doesn't think a hat should be made in anything less than the very best. His love of strong, dark colors can be seen in the many of the treasures he selected personally for the shop's yarn inventory.

  • Maria

A Dartmouth girl, born and raised. Started knitting at an early age, as my mother and grandmother were both knitters. I have continued to enjoy making sweaters, and socks and have recently joined Just Us Knitters a knitting love-in that meets weekly. There's nothing nicer than being surrounded by fellow knitters, talking about, what else, knitting. I have taken a spinning class at NSCAD and enjoyed the calming feeling of spinning fleece. I'm happy to be surrounded by beautiful yarns and inspirational patterns at Dartmouth Yarns and enjoy meeting new and experienced knitters at the shop.
