Introduction to Drop Spindle (2:00 pm - 4:00pm)

From Calendar: Classes

Location: Dartmouth Yarns, 122 Portland St., Dartmouth

Intro to Drop Spindle

Instructor:  Teresa

Have you ever wanted to try spinning your own yarn?  Now is the time to try. You will need a drop spindle and Corriedale top. Spinning with a spindle is a great stepping stone to the spinning wheel and it is portable. Learn about spinning fibres and spinning terms while you begin to create your own handspun yarn.

Materials: Drop spindle and 100g of Corriedale wool top.  Top is unspun wool that has been "combed" so the fibres are going in the same direction.  Rather than looking like a big pile of fluff or a thick slab of fluff, it will look like thick, soft ropes of fibre.  Corriedale is a breed of sheep that makes wool that is easier to spin than other wool that has short fibres or is slippery.  Dartmouth Yarns has spindles and Corriedale top in different colours for you, so just ask.
